As you will be relying on the computerised dental system to run your business, it pays to strategise how to maximize uptime and minimize downtime. One of the first steps in this strategy is to choose your hardware supplier very carefully.

Open	Key points to consider before contracting a hardware supplier:
Open	Is there a service contract by means of which to correct any problems that may arise?
	Should the system fail, what is the response time for an engineer to arrive on site?
	Once the supplier has diagnosed where the fault lies, will they get it back up and running or just supply the parts?
	If there is a problem with the operating system or if configuration changes are needed within the network, will the supplier correct these, or only support the physical hardware on the individual PCs?
	If a computer fails and is removed from site, will the supplier replace it with a temporary machine?
	Consider what will happen to the contract in the second and subsequent years. A warranty replacement arrangement is not enough. The contract will need to be extendable.
	Does the contract warrant that the supplier will continue to support the system functionality rather than just supporting the system components?
	Will the supplier check the integrity of your backups on a regular basis?
