Please refer to the DVA's website page for up-to-date information for dentists, dental specialists and dental prosthetists treating veterans.

General Eligibility for Treatment

Veterans, war widow(er)s and their dependants who have been issued with one of two types of entitlement card are eligible for a range of health care services at the expense of the Repatriation Commission. Those with current Gold Repatriation Health Cards have full eligibility for dental treatment, whereas those with current White Repatriation Health Cards require prior approval for all treatment.

If eligibility for dental services is uncertain, it is your responsibility to check entitlement prior to providing treatment. Payment for services will not be made for veterans without entitlement.

Fee Schedules

For details on applicable fees see:

DVA Fee Schedule for Dentists and Dental Specialists, July 2020

Local Dental Officers

Please refer to the 'Notes for Local Dental Officers' on the DVA website.

Prior Approval Required

Prior approval is not required for initial dental specialist consultations excluding orthodontic and prosthodontic specialists. However, there are some services for which you must obtain prior approval before you commence treatment. The need for prior approval depends on the beneficiary's entitlement (current Gold RH card or White RH card) and on the type of treatment proposed.

Please see "Prior Approval Information for Dentists" on the DVA website, or contact the DVA on 1800 550 457 (non-metropolitan callers) or 1300 550 457 (metropolitan callers).
