Setting up an EXACT network backup via Windows Task Scheduler

Log in and set up the network backup as explained in Setting Up an EXACT Network Backup on Exit
Exit EXACT and click yes to the backup prompt to confirm it works and starts to backup as expected, you can then cancel this.
Open task scheduler in Windows, Click “create task” on the right-hand side
Name the scheduled event, i.e SOE Backup and then tick “run whether the user is logged on or not”
Then on the triggers tab click “new” and choose when the event will run, Daily at which time for example. Remember to run this out of hours
On the actions tab click “new” and then “browse”, select the backup.exe from the following location and then click ok
C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT\Backup.exe
Backup.exe Server Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT Server\backup.exe
On the settings tab change the drop-down from 3 days to 1 day then “ok” to finish, it may require a windows admin username and password before the scheduled task will save.
Please note: the location you are backing up to will need windows permissions to write to the folder, if you have any errors regarding this please do the following:
1. Right click the backup folder (i.e C:\DataBkup) and go to “properties”
2. Then on the security tab click “edit”, highlight “users” and tick the full control box to make sure all windows users can read/write to that folder.

Once the above has been setup on the server, on a workstation make a shortcut to the backup.log folder which is stored in the logfiles folder in the EXact Data share. Show the practice how to confirm the backup was successful. It’s important the practice are regularly checking this log file to confirm the back has been successful.

We take no responsibility should the backups fail to initiate. If the practice would prefer a managed backup solution please refer them to the IT. It is always advisable to have a backup on a workstation as in the event of a server failure the practice may loose everything.
